The Van Duzer Foundation's new
Hometown High School Heroes Scholarship Program

Mission:

In an effort to encourage youth in our community to volunteer their time and talents to non-profit organizations, the Van Duzer Foundation will present a monthly award to one student from each St. Lucie County High School (public, private and legitimately recognized home or virtual high school) to recognize and honor local youth who go above and beyond the call of duty and find a reason to volunteer that involves passion and enthusiasm and a desire to improve life within their community. At the end of the year, we’ll recognize all of the School Hero Award recipients and announce the Volunteer of the Year, who will win a $1,500 scholarship for the college or educational institution of their choice provided by Wal-Mart Distribution Center #7038.

Procedure:

Each month, The Van Duzer Foundation will host a luncheon at 2311 S. 35^th Street, Fort Pierce. for that month’s Volunteer Service Award recipients and the adult who nominated them for the award. Whether it’s a neighbor, parent, teacher, friend or another member of the community, those who took the time to create a nomination will be included in sharing the moment with the hero they’ve nominated. At the end of the year, we’ll recognize all of the School Hero Award recipients and announce the Volunteer of the Year, who will win a $1,500 scholarship for the college or educational institution of their choice provided by Wal-Mart Distribution Center #7038. The Van Duzer Foundation will be responsible for selecting a single student each month to represent each school as that month’s High School Hometown Heroes Volunteer.

Criteria

1 Nominee must be a high school student (grades 9-12) in St. Lucie County enrolled in a public, private or legitimately recognized virtual home school program.

2. Nominee must reside in St. Lucie County.

3. Nominee must be actively volunteering with non-profit organization or church program, or have accomplished a feat of community service to be considered for the monthly School Hero Award.

4. Nomination must be made by an adult teacher, guidance counselor, school administrator, church or organization member or adult (over 21) neighbor or community member.

5. Nomination must be for actively volunteering with non-profit organization or church program, or for an accomplished feat of community service which is completely voluntary and does not involve academic credit or financial remuneration.

6. Nominator and nominee must be willing to make a concerted effort to accompany winner to an award luncheon.

7. The Van Duzer Foundation Selection Committee will be responsible for selecting a single student each month to represent their school as that month’s High School Hometown Heroes Volunteer.

8. At the end of the academic year, the Van Duzer Foundation Award Selection committee will select, from the year’s winners, one High School Hometown Heroes Award Winner who will receive a $1,500 scholarship to the college or higher educational institution of their choice given by Wal-Mart Distribution Center #7038.

9. Nominations will be accepted on a rolling basis and each nomination will be reviewed in the month in which it is received and winners will be selected during the following month.

10. All criteria must be met and nomination form must be properly completed and presented in order to be eligible for consideration.
