Mission:
In an effort to encourage youth in our community to volunteer their time and
talents to non-profit organizations, the Van Duzer Foundation will present a
monthly award to one student from each St. Lucie County High School (public,
private and legitimately recognized home or virtual high school) to recognize
and honor local youth who go above and beyond the call of duty and find a reason
to volunteer that involves passion and enthusiasm and a desire to improve life
within their community. At the end of the year, we’ll recognize all of the
School Hero Award recipients and announce the Volunteer of the Year, who will
win a $1,500 scholarship for the college or educational institution of their
choice provided by Wal-Mart Distribution Center #7038.
Procedure:
Each month, The Van Duzer Foundation will host a luncheon at 2311 S. 35th
Street, Fort Pierce. for that month’s Volunteer Service Award recipients and the
adult who nominated them for the award. Whether it’s a neighbor, parent,
teacher, friend or another member of the community, those who took the time to
create a nomination will be included in sharing the moment with the hero they’ve
nominated. At the end of the year, we’ll recognize all of the School Hero Award
recipients and announce the Volunteer of the Year, who will win a $1,500
scholarship for the college or educational institution of their choice provided
by Wal-Mart Distribution Center #7038. The Van Duzer Foundation will be responsible
for selecting a single student each month to represent each school as that
month’s High School Hometown Heroes Volunteer.
