In 1971, Friday nights were made for football, and nobody played it better and stronger than the Fort Pierce
Central Cobras. With number 51, Justin Ritchie on the field as offensive guard and a group of friends whose lifelong friendship
was forged on the gridiron, the team was unstoppable. Fast forward forty years, and time and health have taken a toll on some
of the 1971 Cobras. The Van Duzer Foundation, the 1970-71 Fort Pierce Central Cobras, and even the 2012 Fort Pierce Central
Cobras will be reuniting to show the importance of teamwork and community as they gather to help raise money to help number
51. Recently, Ritchie has undergone some serious health-related issues which have caused him to lose his job and his home,
but not his hope.
On Wednesday, October 24th, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., it will be Friday night lights all over again as the Van Duzer Foundation hosts a fundraiser
from at Big Apple Pizza and Pasta at 2311 South 35th Street, Fort Pierce (directly across from IRSC) to benefit
Ritchie and help them through this difficult time. As always with Van Duzer Foundation events, one hundred percent of the
proceeds from the evening will go to Justin Ritchie, including food and beverage sales, staff salaries, and tips. Members
of the 1970-71 Cobras will be on hand to support their teammate because we all know that TEAM stands for Together Everyone
Achieves More. Won’t you consider coming out for a slice, a sub, and to
be part of the team that is our caring community?
For the past four years, the Van Duzer Foundation has found unique ways for everyone to positively impact the
community and has raised and donated over $670,000 to St. Lucie County residents in need. For additional information on how
you can become involved, visit www.thevanduzerfoundation.org, or call Scott Van Duzer at (772) 528-3467.
